Betty McCurdy, RN
Administrator

I’ve been employed at Mississippi Care Center of Morton since January of 1992. After receiving my nursing degree in December of 1985, I worked in various areas of nursing including five years of acute care, one year of clinic work and 1 year in the Cardiac Care Unit at St. Dominic before serving as Mississippi Care Center’s Director of Nursing for 15 years. Following a three year stint as a nursing consultant, I returned to Mississippi Care Center as the licensed Administrator in May of 2010. As Administrator, I direct and coordinate all activities of the facility to carry out its objectives and provide the best possible care for each resident in striving to reach their optimal potential while creating a sense of security and contentment. “Working at MSCC provides me an opportunity to serve others and enjoy a relationship with our family of residents and employees. Teresa Busby, RN, BSN
Director of Nursing

I came to Mississippi Care Center in July of 2001 as the Assistant Director of Nursing. After serving in this capacity for five years, I assumed the role of Director of Nursing in 2006. I received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Following graduation, I worked in UMMC’s oncology unit for one year before entering the home health industry where I worked for ten years as a field nurse and case manager. As current Director of Nursing, I manage the overall care of the nursing department which encompasses quality assurance, infection control, weight management, and many other areas of resident care. I’m actively involved with the family members of our residents and open to any discussion related to the care of the resident. “I truly feel like it is more than just a job. I think it is a privilege to care for those who are not able to care for themselves. I enjoy the interaction in our facility between the residents and the staff. I love knowing I am able to help make a difference in the lives of others.”
Angel Aitkins
Director of Dining and Food Services

I have been employed with the Care Center since September, 2015. I received an Associate Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Meridian Community College and had seven years of management experience prior to coming to Mississippi Care Center. My duties include managing the food service in our dietary department, assessing resident’s needs and adapting the services to meet their needs. I love my job because “I am able to serve the residents and get to know each one on a personal level. They bring joy and fun into every day”.
Lynn Burkes
Environmental Supervisor

Lynn has been a part of the Care Center family since 1992. Lynn possesses various levels of expertise including a travel and airline degree, 90 hour basic activity director course, and an associate degree in psychology/social work. That experience has served her well in her time at the Care Center where she has served for seven years in housekeeping, ten years in activities, one year in laundry, and in her role as Environmental Supervisor since 2011. Lynn strives to ensure that our residents have a sanitary, orderly, and comfortable living environment. She states, ‘I have been here so long, it feels like my second home. I enjoy listening to the residents reminisce about the good ole days. I love to see them laugh and smile. It makes me feel good knowing that they are happy.’
Lynn Irby
Marketing Coordinator

I am a graduate of Hinds Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree and have been employed since February of 2013 as Marketing Coordinator and Admission Coordinator. I enjoy marketing the facility through visits to area clinics and hospitals, maintaining good relations with local home health agencies, and participating in community based events to promote our facility services. I love my job because “I get to talk to people in our community about a product I support and believe in. I enjoy bragging on a facility and staff that take so much pride in their work and delivers such good results.”
Nicole Kennedy
Activity Director

Nicole came to Mississippi Care Center as Social Services Director in March, 2010 but later transitioned to Activity Director in June, 2012. She received her Associate of Arts degree from East Central Community College in May of 2001 and graduated from Mississippi College with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in May of 2008. As Activity Director, Nicole is responsible for coordinating resident activities within the facility including all group activities, special events, in-room activities, volunteers, and community outings. Nicole states, ‘I LOVE my job. I literally get paid to have fun with the BEST group of residents and staff around. It is truly a joy to come to work each day because there is never a dull moment.’
Gayla Lang
Receptionist

I came to Mississippi Care Center as receptionist in August, 2007. I am a graduate of Morton High School and Hinds Community College and have 30+ years of experience in the healthcare industry along with a certification in medical coding. Along with greeting visitors and answering the telephone with warmth and a smile, I also oversee the trust fund account and accounts payable for the Care Center. “I love my job because I love meeting and greeting people.”
Paula Latham, LPN
Health Information Manager/Medical Records

I graduated from Morton High School before receiving my nursing degree from Hinds Junior College. I have been employed at Mississippi Care Center since April, 1990. In that time, I have served in various areas including nursing, assessments, and medical records. Serving presently as the Health Information Manager, my duties include organization of resident medical records and employee medical files, entering and updating computerized physician’s orders and auditing resident’s medical charts to ensure quality of care. “We have the best residents ever! I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with. I feel God has put me here and I have been happy here.”
Farrell Madison
Maintenance Manager

Farrell has served as Mississippi Care Center’s Maintenance Manager since June of 2005. His background includes educational training at East Central Community College along with military training on maintenance, inventory, and supply. With 36 years in machine shop maintenance and 22 years of service in the Army and Air National Guard, Farrell brings much experience to the job. His duties include making sure that all utilities and appliances are in good working order along with any preventive maintenance and repairs needed in the facility. Farrell states, ‘I love working with my hands and serving others. Also, I enjoy lending an ear and sharing stories with our residents about the good old days.’
Jordan Mitchell
Social Services Director

Employed on February 1, 2016. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Delta State University, a Master of Social Work Degree from Jackson State University and I am licensed at the master’s level. I have experience in an adolescent mental health capacity at MS State Hospital, in evidence-based psychotherapy at the VA Medical Center and previous experience with the MS Can Program at Magnolia Health Plan. I look forward to a long and fulfilling career at MS Care Center of Morton. My duties include working with the administrator, consultants, facility staff and family members in meeting identified medically-related social needs, arrange for needed personal and adaptive items, provide or arrange for needed counseling, make referrals and obtain outside services, assist in transportation needs, and participate in the assessment and care planning process. “I love my job because I am able to develop positive relationship on behalf of the facility within the community while addressing the social needs of our residents in order to provide them with quality care in a hometown environment.”
Melissa Prestage
Business Office Manager

I came to Mississippi Care Center as Office Manager in December, 2015. I have an Associates of Arts Degree from East Central Community College and over 11 years of bookkeeping and payroll experience. In addition to overseeing the daily duties within the business office, it is my responsibility to execute the facility billing and payroll procedures. I love my job because ‘the atmosphere here is one of kindness and love. Coming in to a job where your goal is to make someone smile is rewarding. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this team. Everyone works together here and Together Everyone Achieves More!’
Kaye Usry, RN
Staff Development Nurse

I have been employed with the Care Center since 2013. I received my Associate Degree in nursing from Meridian Community College. I have 25+ years of nursing experience in various areas including acute care, long term care, case management, outpatient surgery, clinics, and home health. As the Staff Development Nurse, I coordinate and hold in-services for staff at Mississippi Care Center. I am also responsible for C.N.A. Training. “It is a joy to come to work every day. I love interacting with the residents and the challenges my job brings. I am truly blessed to be a part of the MS Care Center of Morton family.”
Bro. Tal Vardaman
Chaplain

I have been employed as Chaplain since May, 2014. I have an Associates of Liberal Arts degree from East Central Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Biology, General Science from Mississippi College. I have 11 years of experience in education, 30 plus years in music ministry and have served as pastor in a local congregation for over 10 years. As chaplain, I conduct weekly Bible study services, morale and spiritual support, grief counseling and more to the residents and staff at the Care Center. “I have an opportunity to serve people all day, and that is what we are called to do. Also, we have a wonderful group of people to work with……they are family”.
Sue Wallace
Administrative Assistant

I’ve been with Mississippi Care Center since April of 1990 where I have gained years of long-term care experience. Over my span of employment at the Care Center, I have served in various capacities including my current position as Administrative Assistant. I work closely with the administrator, department heads, and facility staff providing training and in-services to fulfill all regulatory requirements. Along with coordinating the facility’s Quality Assurance program and Worker’s Compensation benefits, I assist residents, staff, and visitors with a helping hand and warm smile. “Getting to know and care for the residents is such a blessing. Just being a part of their lives makes my life complete. The employees are so filled with love and compassion that our facility truly feels like a family atmosphere. Heather Wicker
Admissions Coordinator

Employed on February 22, 2016 at the Mississippi Care Center. Graduated from Raleigh High School in 1995 and attended Holmes Community College. I was previously employed at Rehabilitation, Inc. in Jackson for 13 years. “I am responsible for admissions and am excited to be working at the Care Center and look forward to a long and satisfying career”.
